While some feel that education is overrated, there are those who feel that the school of life presents us with unique “degrees” that can be applied in business. Earning your “Bachelor of Ideas” is a simple task—and the tuition is completely affordable. Hurry, class is in session!

No matter what kind of business you’re trying to create, be sure to maintain a bachelor attitude. Don’t misinterpret this as an invitation to constantly leave the seat up, order pizza for every meal and only hire college buddies. And this isn’t a newfangled degree that one can obtain by correspondence. A bachelor of ideas is the attitude you need so that you don’t get married to a particular idea, process or client.

Don’t “get married” to one idea
The worst thing a person can do is feel that they have “the” answer. As soon as that occurs, your brilliant mind shuts the door to the gazillion other opportunities and solutions still out there. Don’t cling to one idea as if it’s the last one you’ll ever have, because that’s just what will happen.

Imagine only eating bologna sandwiches for lunch for the rest of your life. Sure, it seemed like a good idea at the start. Easy to prepare, a good way to save money. But fast-forward fourteen years, how do you feel about those sandwiches now? I think the term “lunch-bag letdown” would be a major understatement.

Expect to have new ideas
Bachelorhood is one thing that successful women entrepreneurs handle quite well. Whether in ways to maximize profits, streamline procedures or create solutions that offer customers and clients better value, these women always expect to have new ideas—and a lot more than just one.

Some people may feel that great ideas only happen once in a lifetime. Successful entrepreneurs know that all kinds of ideas are out there every day. You just have to be able to recognize them. And, just like fishing, some ideas need to be thrown back in because they’re not in season or the type you were looking for at the time.

The status quo is a no-no
Just because the ideas are out there doesn’t make them any easier to find. Distractions are a natural part of life, especially when you have deadlines. But having a bachelor of ideas means you’ll always bring something new to the table.

While it may seem more convenient to maintain the status quo, is that what you want for your company? What are you going to have for lunch today?
